Step 2: Do the Eye Test

Step 3: Complete Theory Classes

Theory comes before you ever sit in a car. Courses include UAE traffic rules, road signs, hazard perception and an overview of defensive driving.

After the classes, you sit the theory test. Fail it and you can't move to practical lessons. Study the mock tests your school provides — they're close to the real thing.

Step 4: Practical Driving Lessons

This is where most of the cost goes. Your instructor teaches you:

• Parking — parallel, garage, angle, and hill
• Lane discipline and roundabouts
• Highway driving and emergency stops

The number of lessons depends on your experience. Some first-time drivers require more hours than someone who's been driving overseas for years.

Step 5: Internal Assessments

Before your official tests, the school runs internal evaluations. Think of them as practice runs. You need to pass these before the real thing.

Step 6: Parking Test

This is a separate official test in most emirates. You'll be tested on at least two or three parking types. Accuracy matters more than speed here.

Step 7: RTA Road Test

The final step. An official examiner sits with you for 10 to 20 minutes on real roads. They check:

• Mirror and blind spot checks
• Indicator uses
• Speed control
• Lane discipline
• Reaction to traffic signs and pedestrians

Pass this and your license gets issued. Fail and you'll need extra lessons before rebooking.

Can You Convert a Foreign License?

Yes, if your country is on the eligible list. You skip training and go straight to the license exchange.

You'll need your original foreign license, Emirates ID, passport, and an eye test. Some nationalities also need an official translation.
