Airport Pickup vs. City Depot: Which Dubai Car Rental Option Suits You?

It is not the time to make a rental choice when you arrive at Dubai International Airport with your bags in hand, tired. Make a decision early to save money and time.

Pickup at the airport or city depot is both suitable. It depends on your flight, your budget and where you're going to stay.

What Airport Pickup Offers

Airport pickup service is available to pick up immediately after landing. You arrive at the airport, sign at the rental desk and then drive out.

No transfer needed after your flight
Useful for late-night or early-morning arrivals
Easy option if you have heavy luggage
Usually priced higher than a city branch

The convenience comes with a cost. Expect a higher daily rate as well as sometimes an airport surcharge.

What a City Depot Offers

A city depot is a rental branch located in town, typically Downtown Dubai, Business Bay or Sheikh Zayed Road. The ride is by taxi or ride-hailing service.

Typically, you'll find that the deposit fee is lower. They are ideal for guests who are spending a few days in the city and do not wish to pay airport charges.

The trick is the additional trip. Remember to calculate your taxi costs, travel time and working hours when you make your decision.

Cost Comparison Without the Guesswork

Price is the first thing that most people look at. Avoid short-term rentals, pay attention to the total price.

Airport pickup: higher daily rate and possible surcharge
City depot: lower daily rate but a taxi fare to get there
Occasionally the very best of both: delivery to your hotel (depending on the provider).

Calculate the amount of the taxi fare and subtract that from the daily saving. The depot usually holds for a week or longer. If you need to travel for a shorter amount of time, you may be able to get picked up from the airport more easily.
