Renting in Dubai? What Good Car Rental Services Throw In

Picture two rental desks, the same Nissan Sunny, both asking AED 80 a day. Easy choice? Not quite. One throws in full cover and drops the car at your door, while the other bills you for both. Before you compare car rental services on price, know what your money should get you.

The Basics You Should Expect

With most car rental services, the price covers four things. You get the car, basic insurance, a mileage allowance, and customer support. Our rule is simple: if it's not written in the rental agreement, treat it as not included.

Insurance and the Excess

Every rental car here comes with third-party liability insurance. That's the law. But it only pays for damage you do to someone else's car or property. Your own rental isn't covered.

For that, you need comprehensive insurance. Even then, there's usually an excess, meaning the part of the repair bill you still pay yourself. So when you're looking at insured rental cars in Dubai, ask about the excess, not just the daily rate. A cheap car with an AED 3,000 excess isn't that cheap after one scrape in a Deira car park.

How Many Kilometres Do You Get?

No two companies seem to have the same car rental mileage policy. Some give you unlimited kilometres. Others set a cap and bill you for anything past it. Got a Hatta trip in mind? Count the kilometres before you pick.

Servicing and Breakdowns

On a two-day rental, you'll never think about vehicle maintenance. Three months in, it's a different story. With proper car rental maintenance coverage, the company pays for oil changes and repairs. You also get a spare car while yours is in the workshop.

Breakdowns help matters too. At Hala Drive, our roadside assistance runs 24/7, so a flat tyre on Emirates Road at midnight is a phone call, not a crisis.

Getting the Car to You

Lots of firms now offer vehicle delivery and collection at your flat, hotel, or office. Some do it for free. Others add a fee, so check first.

Fuel and Salik

Most companies here use "same to same" for fuel. You get the car with half a tank; you bring it back with half a tank. Return it lower, and you'll pay for the missing fuel and a service fee.

Salik costs AED 6 a gate during rush hours and AED 4 the rest of the day. The company pays and adds it to your bill later, and some add an admin charge on top.

Deposits and Refunds

Expect a security deposit to be blocked on your credit card. It covers fines, tolls, or damage found after you return the car. You'll usually get it back within about 30 days. Also, check whether 5% VAT is already included.

Extending or Cancelling

Is your holiday going well, and do you want two more days? Any decent car rental company in Dubai should sort that out over WhatsApp. The only catch is if someone else has booked the car. It is important to check the cancellation rules too.

The Small Print

Your car hire terms and conditions decide the final bill: the km limit, the late-return fee, the fuel rule, and more. Read them, then do a vehicle inspection with the staff member and take photos of any marks before you drive off.

Third-party liability is included by law. Comprehensive cover, which protects your rental too, is sometimes extra.

Q2: Is there a km limit on rentals here?

Some companies have one, some don't. Ask before booking.

Q3: How soon is the deposit refunded?

Mostly within a month, if there are no fines or damage.

Q4: Can I keep the car longer than planned?

In most cases, yes, if it's free. Just message the company before your return date.
